This book constitutes the first comprehensive monograph devoted to the work of Romany Eveleigh, tracing over five decades of a rigorous and evolving artistic practice.

Structured in resonance with Eveleigh’s original wall installation, Manifesto (1976), the book opens and closes with this seminal piece, framing the narrative and thematic trajectory of the publication. Manifesto serves as a conceptual thread, weaving through the artist’s persistent engagement with materiality and gesture.

The two principal essays offer critical frameworks through which to interpret Eveleigh’s oeuvre, illuminating the affinities between her gestural language and her varied modes of inscription. These readings disclose the foundational impetus that underlies her sustained inquiry into mark-making, surface, and spatial tension.

Additional texts—including the essay “The Tension Between Surface and Drawn Line”—pursue a close reading of Eveleigh’s process, charting the intellectual and aesthetic concerns that inform her work.

The final section supplements the critical content with biographical context, offering photographic documentation that situates the artist within her historical and personal milieu.
